Second Innings

It has been more than eight years since I blogged last. What started as an adventure(however short-lived it was :)  ) in the computer lab during Summer Intership in grad School, fizzled away as life took numerous rebirths. These last years have had a naturally great  say on what I am today , As one life ends, another starts.

Cricket in India and for Indians

Indians are ,in general, very passionate about cricket. To us it isn't just another ball game. Most of us associate the failure and success of our team as a thing that can be as personal as it gets. We worship our cricketers as demigods. But the problem is we ,as a cricket-loving, nation are too emotional. A few days prior to the ongoing T20 world cup ,we were counting the benefits of recently concluded IPL was going to cause on the campaign of India in the world cup. But since India lost all its matches in the super-eight stage ,everything took a U-turn. We forgot all the success that this team has achieved in the last two years or so in the real form of cricket ,ie, Test and ODIs. We ,too, easily forget the unpredictable nature of the shortest form of cricket where the purest cricketing character and skills are hardly tested. Not very long ago, the Indian news media was going gaga over the leadership skills of M.S Dhoni and branded him as 'Captain Cool' and after the unexpected exit of the Indian team the same man has been called 'Captain Arrogant'.Now this is real transformation!!!!!!!!!! One can easily feel and hear these days the amount of heated words every other fan is having about the Indian team and particularly Dhoni. We can't digest defeat at all and unless we change this habit it is always going to hurt us . We need to take defeats as graciously.England have never won a major cricket tournament and still they have fans who remain loyal in worst of times. But we, despite being the one of the most successful teams in recent times, always want to win . It is quite interesting as well as annoying to hear the various theories that people have these days about cricket. The only real solution is that we should not give the vast importance even to victory and then only it won't hurt when our team loses . We should always remember that the guys on the field never want to lose and they are there on that field after years of hard work.

Indian Media : Becoming a circus?

In the last decade or so ,there has been a boom in the Indian television Industry and along with it there has been a drastic change in the functioning of the news media. While no one can deny the fact that the news media has played a vital and positive role in getting justice in cases like Jessica murder case , of late what i feel is that a certain section of media has become hyper-active and has been continuously crossing its boundaries .I still feel sick to my stomach when i remember the drama that the media had created around the murder of poor Aarushi Talwar.Who can forget when a bunch of jokers who supposedly called themselves reporters and detectives came up with their own ridiculous theories and angles every other day.But where are they now when justice has still not been served.Just because the case was fresh, they could spend 12 hours a day on the case but now a year after they dont have a minute ? In the recent Shiney Aahuja case also ,a certain section of media is just interested in cheap publicity to increase its viewership and not in bringing out the real truth which should be its primary goal. The media should understand its responsibility and its huge impact on the mass opinion on its own and should impose self-regulation .

Racism and Indians

Well, all of us most probably by now are aware with the attacks on indian students in Australia.Undoubtedly these attacks warrant a contempt but i would like to express my views on a more serious issue instead.I recently saw a Tv animation series :Avatar: the last air-bender.I remember one of the dialogues from it which goes something like it" To bend the souls of others ,your own soul must be unbendable". Just for a very ugly fact of our society, i feel that many among us are racists. Isn't it a common habit that people having dark complexion are addressed like 'KAALU' or something like that no matter we remember it not do in front of them? For me even thinking so amounts to racism. We also have a fairly regular habit of making fun of people who hail from other regions( like many of us use to make fun of south indians).Or don't many of us still call all the foreigners as GORAS. See i strongly feel that the culprits in the case of Australian incidents should be punished under law.But what is more necessary is the fact that we should also try to adapt to the local life and culture of society we live in.Coming back to our own society, can we answer the fact that why at the time of marriage a fair complexion is of paramount importance? Perhaps to preserve the false sense of being superiority which is 110% racism. In fact in recent years there have been attacks on foreigners in our country but none of them were branded racists but all such attacks on our people anywhere in the world were racist!!!!!!!!!!! Actually when our own home is so divided what else can we expect? We have to first worry about getting things right here back in our own motherland.Only then can we fulfil the dreams that the architects of modern India had envisioned for it.

The beginning...

It happens so that i have been thinking to start blogging forever.Well ,as lazy as i really am, my plans could never really materialize. Now today was no different. As usual some of the guys sitting beside me in the computer lab were busy in their BLOG-WORLD ,when someone commented that these things are beyond me.So i thought enough is enough and lets do it.Here i am yearning to pick a thing or two from the other guys.
